Packages
What packages should be included on the disc? Assume we are working from a
Morphix base.
Internet applications:
Firefox
Thunderbird
If it's possible to include some software development packages then the disc can be distributed as a tool to CS and IT students who will have programming assignments. Including these would cover a lot of common requirements (but they are big):
g++
free-java-sdk
A small point about DVD/CD playing software. When the IFSO disc is in, you can't remove it (of course), so these might be annoying for people with only one drive.
Notes
Is it worth producing a non-bootable disc that contains Free Software for users of Non-free operating systems? Not everyone is ready to change their operating environment but may be open to using some new applications. This has been suggested by some members as an alternative to the bootable discs as a way to get people interested in Free Software.
Mel McWeeney has been recording some ideas about how to put the next disc together.
Could we prepare multiple disc images for different audiences: desktop users, development/hackers, educational (second level, etc.)
