Related Organisations

Many of the issues that IFSO works on are shared by other organisations in Europe and around the world. Below are some organisations with compatible objectives that we have worked with, or have benefitted significantly from. IFSO is an associate of Free Software Foundation Europe. Our relationship with the other organisations here is purely informal.

Free Software Foundation

Founded in 1985 by Richard Stallman, FSF was the first organisation set up to support the Free Software movement. It's headquarters are located in Boston, North America.

Free Software Foundation Europe

FSF Europe was founded in 2001 as official sister organisation of FSF and was the first FSF outside the United States.

Association For Free Software

AFFS is a UK based Free Software association. It was founded in 2002 and is IFSO's nearest neighbour.

UK Campaign for Digital Rights

UKCDR was founded in 2001 to draw attention to the DMCA court case involving Dmitry Sklyarov. Its focus shifted to European and UK legislation affecting digital rights, although since 2005 it has become largely inactive.

Foundation for a Free Information Infrastructure (FFII)

FFII was founded in 2000 and is the main organisation behind the campaign to prevent software implementable ideas becoming patentable in the EU.

Irish Linux Users Group (ILUG)

Set up in 1997. ILUG is mainly concerned with technology, but the technology is mostly Free Software.

ILUG and IFSO have collaborated a number of times, mostly on events.
